Leslie "Les" Kaufman of Packanack Lake, Wayne, NJ, passed away on August 8, 2026, surrounded by the love of the family who meant everything to him.
Les was born on December 2, 1945, in Birmingham, England, to Philip and Joan Kaufman. He grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and went on to attend the Philadelphia College of Textiles & Science, graduating in 1967. Following college, Les served in the United States Army Reserve from 1967 to 1973 as a Chemical Staff Specialist.
Les built a successful career in textile sales, working for Hoechst Celanese. But while his career was an important part of his life, Les’s greatest pride and joy was always his family.
In 1971, Les met the love of his life, Sheila, while out with friends in Manhattan- a chance meeting that became a love story spanning more than five decades. They married on July 14, 1974, at the United Nations Chapel in Manhattan, in a ceremony officiated by both a priest and a rabbi, a meaningful reflection of the two families and traditions they were bringing together. Just weeks before Les’s passing, he and Sheila celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary.
Les was a devoted husband to Sheila and a loving father to his daughters, Sarah Wyatt and Lindsay Mullen. He welcomed his sons-in-law, Darren Wyatt and Daniel Mullen, into the family and loved them dearly. Les was also a beloved uncle to his niece, Jodi Cohen, and a loyal friend to many.
Perhaps one of Les’s most treasured roles was being “Papa” to his four grandsons, Ryan and Aidan Wyatt, and Beckett and Brooks Mullen. He was incredibly proud of each of them and could often be found in the audience, on the sidelines or in the stands, cheering them on at their many sporting and school events. Being present for his grandsons and watching them grow brought him tremendous happiness.
Packanack Lake was not only Les’s home, but also a community that became an important part of his life. An avid golfer, Les was a member of the Packanack Lake Golf Club for nearly 40 years. He treasured the countless rounds of golf, friendships, laughs, and memories he shared with his golf buddies over the decades.
Those who knew Les will remember a man who loved his family deeply and showed that love by simply being there- through the big milestones and the everyday moments. He was a devoted dad, a proud Papa, a loving husband, and a treasured uncle and friend.
Les was predeceased by his parents, Philip and Joan Kaufman, and his beloved sister, Alanna Cohen.
Les leaves behind a family who will miss his presence more than words can express, but who will carry with them a lifetime of memories, stories, laughter, and love.
