Liam Sebastian Marquez, of Haskell,  just 3 years young, joined the angels in heaven on Thursday, August 17, 2023. His dearly loved Mommy, Daddy, Nanny, and Auntie were right by his side as he went into eternal glory.

Liam was born into this world in April, 2020, during some of the most difficult days of the Covid pandemic. In the context of those dark days, his arrival was a beautiful, glorious ray of sunshine, full of hope and happiness to his excited parents, Sebastian and Kimberly Marquez. Sadly, their immense happiness turned to great concern when, at just 8 weeks old, Liam was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a very rare and aggressive form of cancer. For the rest of his short earthly life, Liam endured surgeries, countless chemotherapy and radiation treatments, and numerous visits to doctors and hospitals. Through it all, and right until he passed, God kept him going, kept him learning, and kept him doing all the things little boys love to do.

Liam loved going to the park. It was one of his favorites things to do, as long as Liam was running and laughing. He would get so excited and with an exuberant voice he’d say “Mommy, let’s go to a new park! He also loved an indoor play place called Catch Air that had everything a little kid could want to do. Every day Liam wanted to go and bring his buddies. Also, his love for animals was amazing. He was incredibly smart and could spout off all kinds of information about all kinds of animals. He knew their habitats and what they liked to eat. Liam especially loved dinosaurs and even though he was only three, you could show him a picture of one and he could tell you exactly what dinosaur it was – Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus, Stegosaurus, Brontosaurus – you name it! He pretty much knew them all and, if you had a question he couldn’t answer, Liam would always say “Look it up” or “Google it”.

Liam had so much love for his Auntie and Unka or as Liam would say, my bestie Auntie who he spent so much time with. Through Liam’s Auntie, Jessica and Unka Corey who live in Little Falls, he became beloved by so many from Little Falls and their Police Department and Fire department. Liam would always say, “When I grow up, I want to be Police Officer to arrest the bad guys.” The Little Falls Police made an official proclamation and made him an official police officer complete with the bestowment of his own genuine police badge. Likewise, Totowa and Woodland Park Fire Departments made Liam an honorary fire chief. What kid wouldn’t be excited?

A recent great highlight for Liam (and his parents) was going to Yankee Stadium where he got to play on the field and meet the players. Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo had cancer as a very young man himself. He survived and so he started the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation to raise money and awareness for cancer research and to support families who are battling cancer. Liam actually met Anthony Rizzo and also Aaron Judge and Kyle Higashioka to name a few.

Liam was the kind of kid that you couldn’t help but be drawn to. He was the big brother of his eight-month-old sister Isabella Leigh or “Bella” as he loved to call her. He was also like a little brother to his older cousins Madison and Dante. They shared an amazing bond. Liam loved giving them wake up calls by storming into their bedrooms at 8:30 in the morning to beat them up. His love for them and his Nanny was like no other.

Liam always wanted to run, always! As recently as three days before he passed, he was running in the house with his Mommy and Nanny. As he ran he yelled, “Run faster Mommy! You’re not doing it right! Go faster! Turn on the jets!“ Three days later, he’s flying with jets even Liam could never have dreamed about. Oh Liam, you will truly be missed! Thank you for such great memories. See you again our sweet angel!

Matthew 19:14

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

Liam was the precious son of Sebastian and Kimberly (Myers) Marquez. He was the greatest big brother of Isabella “Bella” Marquez; adored grandson of maternal grandmother Irene Myers of Lady Lake, FL, maternal grandfather Weldon Myers of Wildwood, FL, paternal grandmother Blanca Marquez of Puerto Rico and paternal grandfather Eduardo Marquez who predeceased him ; cherished cousin of Madison Myers, Dante Ferreira, Camila and Nick Lucarelli, Eva, Mariella, and Gigi Marquez; dearest nephew of his Auntie Jessica Myers and Unka Corey Eopechino, Tia Edith Marquez and Uncle Martin Lucarelli, Tio Eduardo Marquez, Jr. and Aunt Nicole Marquez, Uncle Steve Marquez, and Uncle Simon Marquez.

In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy in Liam’s name are asked to consider a donation to: Liam’s Warriors Foundation. A non-profit foundation to help raise money and awareness for cancer research and to support families who are battling cancer.
