Friends may visit with the family at the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home, 567 Ratzer Road, Wayne, on Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 4-7 PM. A funeral service will be held at 9:30 AM on Friday, December 8, 2017 at the Cedar Crest Village Chapel, Pompton Plains. Burial will follow at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Coram, NY, on Long Island, where Lillian will be laid to rest with her husband.
Lillian Lucchesi, age 90 of Pompton Plains died on Sunday, December 3, 2017. She had lived in Great River, Long Island with her husband Andrew (2012) before moving to Cedar Crest Village eight years ago.
Lillian grew up in Forest Hills, Queens, NY, as an only child to Giuseppe and Teresa DelPonte. She was very fortunate during her childhood to enjoy summers in Patchoque, Long Island, where she developed her love for the beach. She met her husband at a local dance and the two fell in love. They were married on June 18, 1955 and celebrated their honeymoon in Havana, Cuba. That marked the beginning of fifty-seven years of marriage filled with many travels, laughs, and wonderful memories. Lillian and Andrew had visited Italy numerous times, London, Greece, Mexico, and many other destinations. They truly had a great life together and made for a perfect combination. Moving to Cedar Crest Village proved to be the best thing for them. Lillian was an avid Bridge player and she could always find a card game there, and after Andrew passed away in 2012, she found countless friends and neighbors who helped during her grieving. Lillian’s children are especially grateful to those friends for all the support they shared.
Lillian had earned a Master’s Degree in Psychology and was a social worker at the New York Foundling Hospital. After starting a family, she became a full-time mom and was devoted to raising her three children. As much as Lillian enjoyed old movies, books, and visits to the beach, there was nothing she loved more than her family. Her grandchildren were the light of her life and she moved to New Jersey in order to be closer to them. They will all miss her dearly.
Lillian is survived by her three children; Joanne Delaney and her husband Robert of Ridgewood, NJ, Andrew “Drew” Lucchesi and his wife Dianne of Wayne, and Paul Lucchesi and his wife Sophie of Chicago, and nine grandchildren; Sara (husband Joe), Jack, Michael, Andrew, Cristina, P.J., Francesca, Tom and Charlie. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Andrew in 2012.
Lillian survived breast cancer nearly forty years ago and donations in her memory would be appreciated to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, 1275 York Ave., New York, NY 10065, or visit their website at www.mskcc.org.
