Loretta A. Van Schaik (nee DeLong) age 83 of Wayne died Sunday, November 26, 2006 at the Llanfair House nursing home in Wayne.
She was born in Paterson and had lived there and Reading, Pennsylvania before moving to Wayne forty-six years ago.
Loretta received her formal education at the Paterson East Side High School graduating with the Class of 1941.
She was a parishioner of Saint Mary’s RC Church in Pompton Lakes.
Loretta was an Administrative Assistant at Markovitz Company in Wayne, a plastic manufacturing enterprise for ten years. Later she held the same position at Cinrock Company in Wayne, manufacturers of robotic machine tools before her retirement in 1988.
She was gifted with a selfless personality that always held others' needs above her own thus causing her to have a host of friends. Loretta also was very active and was a member of the “T” Bowl Bowling League and the Pines Lake Bowling League as well as the Pines Lake Bridge Club. She was a member of the Pines Lake Shady Ladies group who always met in a patch of shade at the Pines Lake beach.
Loretta was very adventurous and loved to travel. She saw much of the world including Europe, Russia and the United States. One especially memorable joy was her helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon.
Mom was very much of a family oriented person who experienced her grandmother's responsibilities with much pride and joy. She leaves her family with wonderful memories of good cooking, making holidays special and her special dedication to being a wife, mother and grandmother.
Joseph and Loretta had a “loving best friends” marriage together for forty-nine years until Joseph’s passing in 1987.
Surviving three daughters Leah Carpenter of Buena Vista, Colorado, Joanne “Joey” Van Schaik of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Lori Rosenboom and her husband Richard of Riverdale; six Grandchildren Jeff Carpenter, Kelly Petersen, Stacey Obrecht, Scott Moss, Kevin and Kristen Rosenboom; one great grandson Sage Peterson.
