Lucia Carpinteri

October 8, 1947 – April 20, 2020

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of Lucia Carpinteri, age 72, of Wayne, announces her passing on Monday, April 20, 2020, after a courageous battle with Covid-19.

Lucia was a devoted and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and auntie.

Lucia was born in Solarino, Sicily, and was one of five children (Salvatore, Angela, Vincenzo, Lucia & Teresa) born to Giuseppe and Carmela Rametta.

While living in Sicily, she met a handsome young man by the name of Paolo Carpinteri.  As fate would have it; they fell in love and were married in Sicily on October 28, 1962, and have been happily married for 58 years.

Paolo and Lucia welcomed their first son, Antonino Carpinteri in Sicily before moving to the United States in 1967.  They settled first in Paterson, NJ where they expanded their family with their sons, Giuseppe Carpinteri and Aldo Carpinteri.

The family moved to Wayne in 1973. Lucia was outgoing, loving and kind and would go on to form close bonds with her neighbors from Valley Road, and Berkley Court. Her home was always open to the neighborhood children and her kitchen full of delicious food.

Her seven grandchildren, (Paul, Kaitlyn, Gina, Anthony, Ava, Michael and Matthew) referred to her as “Nonna” which means “Grandmother” in Italian.

She was an extraordinary and very wise woman, who was loved and respected by her grandchildren.  They refer to her as the “best Nonna ever” who taught them that their voices are very important and they need to use it as they pursue their dreams.

Lucia worked for the Wayne Board of Education for 25 years, first in food services, and then as a Paraprofessional.  She loved the children she worked with over the years and the children and families always found comfort in knowing Lucia would treat their child with respect, dignity and caring.

Lucia was dedicated to her family above all else, and would spend all her time ensuring everyone felt that love.  She was an excellent cook, her specialties being the Sicilian recipes handed down from generation to generation.  She was a welcoming and gracious host who loved to have family and friends gather in her home.

Lucia was a beautiful, vibrant and strong woman who loved to decorate and care for her home and garden.  She loved fashion, flowers, Elvis, Kenny Rogers, Lionel Richie music as well as the Italian classics.

Lucia was the loving wife of Paolo Carpinteri; loving mother of Antonino Carpinteri and his wife Jackie of Wayne, NJ, Giuseppe Carpinteri and his wife Jennifer of Wayne, NJ, Aldo Carpinteri and his wife Lisa of Powder Springs, GA; dear sister of Vincenzo and his wife Giannina Rametta of Elmwood Park, NJ, Angela and late husband Joe Saladino of Montville, NJ, Teresa Messano of Pompton Lakes and Salvatore and his wife Lina Rametta of Solarino, Sicily; beloved grandmother to Paul, Kaitlyn, Gina, Anthony, Ava, Michael and Matthew and loved Auntie to her many nieces and nephews.
