Lucy Severini

Lucy Severini, age 85, of Totowa, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 16, 2023 in the presence of and while receiving the loving care of her family.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, she was one of Louis and Maria (DeLuise) Valente’s eight children.

In 1960, a handsome and very charming young man named Dominick Severini was introduced to Lucy by a mutual friend. On their first date, they went out for dinner and drinks. The night went well and so they continued to see each other regularly for about a year. Friendship led to love and ultimately to marriage on Sunday, June 25, 1961 at St. Finbar’s Church in Brooklyn, NY. After the wedding Lucy and Dominick stayed in Brooklyn where they were blessed with the birth of their baby daughter Lisa. In 1971, after nine years of married life in Brooklyn, they moved to Totowa, NJ where they would spend the rest of their lives together. Lucy and Dom cherished fifty-seven years in a loving and loyal marriage until Dom’s passing in 2018.

The most important blessings in Lucy’s life were her family and her faith. She and Dom had a beautiful marriage and they loved each other’s companionship immensely. One of their favorite pastimes was playing cards with their friends, especially Pinochle. They also took great pleasure in traveling and frequented places such as Cancun, New Orleans, Bermuda, and a particularly memorable trip to Salem, Massachusetts on Halloween some years ago. They also adored their daughter Lisa and enjoyed sharing life with her and her husband Dave in their mother-daughter home. When it came to her grandchildren Chris and Alex, nothing made Lucy happier than when they came to visit. She was simply awed by them! Throughout Lucy’s life, she maintained a close relationship with God and her catholic faith. She loved attending Mass at St. James Church in Totowa. It gave her so much peace and allowed her to see her friends each Sunday. In addition to faith and family, Lucy loved sharing life with Lisa and David’s dogs Bentley and Holly, reading, and in recent years, talking on the phone regularly with her girlfriends and getting together with them every Saturday night to watch movies on Netflix.   

Lucy was the beloved wife of Dominick, who passed away in 2018. She was the most loving mother of Lisa Greco and husband David of Totowa, cherished grandmother of Christopher and wife Krystal Greco and Alexandria and husband Louis Racanelli; dear sister of Liz; and dear aunt of numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was also predeceased by her six other siblings: Jerry, Rico, Emily, Ann, Louis, and Jean.
