Mae Edith Whitney (nee Wyma) age 72 of Wayne died Monday, November 20, 2006 unexpectedly at the home of her daughter Jane Moore in Northfield. At her passing she was surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Wayne and had lived in the same home all of her life.
Mae received her formal education at Pompton Lakes High School graduating with the Class of 1952.
Mrs. Whitney drove a school bus for Konners Bus Company in Parsippany for fifteen years before her retirement.
Mae had a wonderful gift of selfless personality that caused her to always put others' needs above her own. The arrival of grandchildren was perhaps the brightest light in her life’s experience. She was very proud to wear a grandma “T” shirt with all their names on it. She called the grandkids “Grandma’s Gang”
She leaves her family with many treasured memories of good home cooking and having her family gathered around her especially on holidays. Mom was always there for her family helping with her best efforts and always happy and proud of her family. Her hobbies included playing the lottery, coin collecting, slot machines, stamp collecting, deep sea fishing and collecting elephants of all kinds.
One of her best joys in life was spending time on the beach either at the Jersey shore or in Florida.
“Thank You Mom-Grandma for being so nice and loving to us the way you did…. We were lucky to have you in our lives… there has been no better Mom and Grandma. Thank You with all of our love”.
Tom and Mae had a “wonderful loving” marriage together for forty-nine years.
Surviving are her loving husband Thomas, three sons Thomas Whitney Jr. and his fiancé Susie of Franklin, Frank E. Whitney and his wife Toni of Milford, Pennsylvania, Joseph Whitney and his wife Doris of Wayne; two daughters Mae Minarovich and her husband William of Pompton Lakes, Jane Moore and her husband James of Northfield; one sister Petie Wyma Byle of San Diego California, eleven grandchildren Ryan, Danielle, Ashley, Shannon, Sean and Kayla Whitney, Kimberly and Brian Minarovich, Christy, Katelyn and Alysa Moore.
She was predeceased by her son Timothy Whitney in 2005, and two grandchildren John Patrick Whitney and Lareigh Nicole Moore died earlier..
Mae is also survived by her faithful rottweiler dogs Barron and Zeus, and her cat Sussie.
Those planning an expression of sympathy in Mae’s memory are asked to consider the Whitney family.
