Margarethe Karafky (nee Haas Von Ehrenfeldt) age 90 of Wayne died Friday, December 15, 2006 at Saint Josephs Wayne Hospital, Wayne while surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Vienna, Austria and came to this country in 1947 at the age of thirty-one settling in Clifton, NJ before moving to Wayne fifty-one years ago.
Margarethe met her husband during WWII as the Americans liberated Austria. At the end of the war, they had to wait two years before she could emigrate to the United States. The day she disembarked the ship, she and Abe were married.
Mrs. Karafky had a love of teaching needlework, crocheting and knitting. She started a knitting club, that met on Thursday evenings, for the past twenty five years. Their last meeting was this past Thursday at her home. These women became her lifelong friends.
Beloved wife of sixty years to Abe Karafky; loving mother of twin daughters Barbara Karafky of Sayreville and Ceil Karafky of Wayne; cherished grandmother of Sean Whaley of Jersey City and Christine Whaley of Sayreville and two great-grandchildren Ethan Daniel Lachaud-Whaley and Chase Bryant Lachaud-Whaley both of Sayreville.
