Maria H. Mosley (nee Tremper), age 80, of Pompton Lakes passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 while receiving the loving care of her family.
Maria was born and raised in White Marsh, MD and was the youngest of six children to Bartholomew and Elizabeth Tremper. When Maria was only six years old, she and her brothers and sisters lost their father suddenly and unexpectedly to an automobile accident. While growing up in White Marsh, Maria attended Catholic School up until about the eighth grade then attended a local public high school. Following high school, Maria lived in Pennsylvania with her sister Ruth. After moving there, Maria found work quickly with the Arrow Shirt Company where she was employed for about two years.
For a number of years Maria had been friends with a young man named William Mosley. In the spring of 1959, Maria and William became romantically involved. During that summer, as fate would have it, William and Maria fell in love and on October 24, 1959 they became husband and wife. Being that William was a Methodist, they got married at a local Methodist Church. Sometime later, the couple married again, this time in a Catholic Church being that Maria was raised a Roman Catholic.
The newlyweds settled in Throop, PA where they lived for about a year. While living there, the couple welcomed the birth of their first child, William. Maria and her family then moved to Paterson, NJ where they lived from 1961 until 1966. During that time Maria and William welcomed another son, Michael, into the world. As the family started to grow, they moved yet again, this time to Prospect Park where they lived for more than thirty years. Shortly after moving to Prospect Park, William and Maria welcomed their third child, their daughter Linda. The family remained in Prospect Park until 1999, when they moved to Pompton Lakes where they have been ever since.
Immediately after getting married, Maria made the decision to become a full time homemaker. This was truly Maria’s calling and where she naturally flourished. Her family remembers her as being an “old school” housewife, always having dinner on the table at 5:15pm during the week and the traditional family Sunday dinners. She spent her days caring and nurturing her children and taking care of her husband. She and her children were long time parishioners of St Paul RC Church in Prospect Park for many years. Later, after Maria’s children had grown, she went back to the workplace and took a position at Meyer Bros Department Store in Wayne.
Maria enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and taking care of her two dogs, Sandy and Rusty. She was a big fan of horse racing. Although she was not the betting type, she truly enjoyed attending Thoroughbred Horse Racing and watching the races on TV. She and her husband William would travel to Sarasota where she was able to get close to the horses and actually speak with the horse jockeys. She also cherished accompanying her husband on business trips to a variety of places including New Orleans, California, and Florida. Aside from all of Maria’s talents, hobbies, and interests, her greatest passion was for her family. Nothing in the world meant more to Maria than caring for and spending time with her family. She and her husband William treasured an amazing sixty two years of loving and loyal marriage together.
Maria was a quiet individual and a truly devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her hardships as a child made her a strong, tenacious, and compassionate woman. She was the kind of person that seemed to be in tune with other people’s emotions and was always willing to offer advice and guidance to those who needed or wanted it. Maria was truly a special person who touched the lives of many people and will be sincerely missed by everyone that knew her.
Maria is survived by her husband William Mosley of Pompton Lakes, NJ, two sons; William Mosley of Pompton Lakes, NJ, and Michael Mosley and his wife Dianna of Pompton Lakes, NJ, one daughter Linda Heisler and her husband Paul of West Milford, NJ, one brother Donald Tremper of White Marsh, MD, one sister Regina Tremper of Maryland, seven grandchildren; Gregory Mosley of Pompton Lakes, NJ, Christopher Mosley and his wife Rachel of Sewell, NJ, Zachary Mosley of Dover, DE, Nicholas Mosley of Bloomingdale, NJ, Frank Mazzola of Eglin, FL, Jennifer Heisler of West Milford, NJ, and Joseph Heisler of West Milford, NJ, and three great grandchildren; Naji, Arianna, and Carter. Maria was predeceased by her parents Bartholomew and Elizabeth Tremper, her sister Ruth Schaefer, and her two brothers Louis Tremper, and Bartholomew Tremper.
