Services

Friends may visit with the family from 4-7 PM on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home, 567 Ratzer Road, Wayne.  A 7 PM Funeral Service will be held at the conclusion of the visitation hours.

Marie D. Marano (Corteluna) age 98, of Cedar Crest Village in Pompton Plains, formerly of Ridgefield, passed Sunday, August 14, 2022.

She was born to Leonard and Mary Corteluna in Hoboken.  Marie graduated from Hoboken High School with the Class of 1941.  After high school she worked as a secretary for the Nabisco Corporation in New York City. She changed her last name on her job application to Cortell as they were not hiring Italian people. Marie dedicated herself to raising her three boys before returning to the workforce and a secretarial job with ESC Electronics in Palisades Park. She worked there to help support putting her three sons through Rutgers College and retired in 1984.

Marie married her sweetheart Carmen Marano in 1946 after he returned from the Pacific Theatre of WWII.  They settled in Ridgefield where they lived for sixty years and raised their three sons Anthony, Leonard, and Richard. In 2017 they moved to the Cedar Crest Village in Pompton Plains before Carmen’s passing in June of 2021 and 75 years of a loving and devoted marriage.

She will be lovingly remembered as an avid reader – sometimes two books in a day! She had a phenomenal memory, loved shopping, was always dressing meticulously with the latest styles and had to have a computer. She was always active whether it was Friday night dancing at the Ridgefield Fire Department Engine Co. 3, helping with their Ladies Auxiliary, or socializing with seniors at the Ridgefield Community Center. She was an excellent cook and her special loving touch on Eggplant Parmesan will be dearly missed.

Marie was the loving wife of 75 years to the late Carmen Marano (d.June 2021); she was the devoted mother of Anthony and Marilyn Marano of Franklin Lakes, Len and Diane Marano of Washington Township, and Rich and Eileen Marano of Mantoloking; she was the adored grandmother of Alison and Adam White, Christine and Rob Odell, Jillian and Mark Capalbo, Dana and Alex Cunningham, Connor Marano, and Griffin Marano; she was also the dearly loved great-grandmother of Samantha, Robert, Reese, Ashley, and Ella.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Ridgefield Fire Department, 588 Bergen Blvd, Ridgefield, NJ 07657 would be greatly appreciated. (the funeral home will have donation cards available by the register book)
