Marion V. Monzo

Wayne

Marion Veronica Monzo, age 90 of Wayne, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 4, 2023, with her loving husband by her side.

Born in Evanston, Illinois to Michael and Veronica Bredger, her family moved to New Jersey where she attended and graduated from Hasbrouck Heights High School.

Marion began her professional career at Grand Union Food Store – a big grocery store chain at the time. She worked as a secretary for them while a young man named Bill Monzo worked part-time in the mail room. Their paths crossed one day, and Bill found himself starstruck by her beauty. In an effort to catch Marion’s attention, Bill convinced Marion that he was actually quite wealthy (whether she believed a younger man working in the mail room that he was rich is another story) but she agreed to join Bill for a date. The two quickly fell in love with one another. Bill was drafted into the Korean war which kept them apart for a time, but the two never lost touch and eventually Bill proposed to Marion.

They got married in 1954 and enjoyed a loving and devoted marriage to one another that lasted for 69 years. Bill and Marion honeymooned in the beautiful Bar Harbor, Maine – a favorite destination that they revisited many times during their lives together.

In 1955, Marion and Bill welcomed their son Christopher Monzo into the world. Marion was an understanding, compassionate, loving, and caring mother. Their family expanded with the adoption of several cats and a loving Samoyed dog with a snow-white coat that they named Frosty.

In addition to her responsibilities as a mother, Marion also worked for Bell Telephones as a telephone operator for 32 years! She and Bill both worked hard in their respective fields to eventually purchase a second residence at a golf community in the beautiful west coast of Florida. Although Marion wasn’t into golf, she did enjoy knitting so she would use the time away from Bill to refine her craft. She donated many of her knitted garments to Our Lady of Consolation Church to help those in need. They enjoyed that home for 10 years before retiring full-time to Wayne, New Jersey.

Marion is survived by her husband William “Bill” Monzo; her grandson Dr. Christopher Monzo and his wife Laura Monzo; and her great-grandkids Logan Monzo and Diana Monzo. She is predeceased by her son Christopher Monzo.
