Martha Mary Barany, age 89, passed Sunday, April 16, 2017.
She was born and raised in Peoria, Illinois. Martha met her future husband Harry Barany at the USO in Peoria. They married on June 14, 1947 and settled into Harry’s parents’ home on Olsen Avenue in Nutley, New Jersey. In 1953 they moved to Wayne where she resided for the last 63 years.
She was a homemaker for most of her life and then worked for K-Mart for 25+ years.
Martha will be remembered as a great cook and baker whose pot roast, fried chicken, and stuffed peppers will be greatly missed. Her marriage was blessed with seven children and Martha was an expert at assigning chores to assure the family ran as a well oiled machine. She will be remembered as being skilled at drawing and needle point, and had a green thumb when it came to flower gardening. She also enjoyed arts, crafts and ceramics. Martha was an animal lover and will be lovingly greeted by her three dogs Freddy, Pattycake, and Bonkers in heaven.
Martha was the loving wife of forty-six years to the late Harry Barany (1993); devoted mother of Lynn Basile of Spartanburg, SC, Kathleen Schreiber and her husband Bruce of Landing, Barbara Amrhein and her husband Ron of Jackson, Harry Barany and his wife Diane of Pequannock, Lisa Whitty and her husband Tom of Vernon, Steven Barany and his wife Bernardine of Vernon, and Patricia Foster and her husband Keith of Pacolet, SC; she was the cherished grandmother of fourteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister Mary Jeanne Martin.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memorials Processing, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 would be appreciated.
