Maryann T. Montano (nee Longo), age 51 of Lincoln Park, died suddenly and unexpectedly on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at the Chilton Memorial Hospital in Pompton Plains. Maryann was a caring and generous person, always willing to help others in need and her final act of kindness included donating organs through the Sharing Network. Already we know that she has helped three other people who were awaiting transplants. Although her death was sudden and tragic, she made certain that it was not without purpose.

Maryann was born in Bayonne, NJ and grew up in Wayne. She graduated from Wayne Hills High School with the class of 1976. Soon thereafter she went to work at State Farm Insurance where she loyally served as a Commercial Underwriting Assistant for twenty four years at their offices in Wayne. She moved to Lincoln Park twenty years ago.

She met her husband Nick on a blind date that everyone thought would never work out – but it did! Nick described her as “a breath of fresh air” on that first date; a kind and honest girl. They hit it off and were married in 2002. Together they had travelled on a few cruises and made many trips to Atlantic City to visit one of Maryann’s best friends; the slot machine. She truly enjoyed the ocean and the two of them vacationed in Point Pleasant just a few weeks ago. In fact, she had collected a bunch of seashells on that trip and was in the process of crafting them into Christmas decorations for her four brothers. Crafting was one of her hobbies, along with scrap booking and rug-hooking, among many others.

Her family and friends can tell you what a loyal person she was. Many of the friends she has now are friends from her childhood. She was charismatic too and would make new friends seemingly everywhere she went; she just ‘clicked’ with everyone. She was also very fortunate to have a special relationship with her step-daughter Morgan. Nick’s parrot, Guido, even took a special liking to Maryann.

Her four brothers each have fond memories of their sister. You would think that being the only girl with four brothers couldn’t have made it easy for Maryann, but she was caring and nurturing with them too. Their terms of endearment for her, such as “Friz-bomb” or “Pidge”, didn’t stop her from being the best sister they could have asked for. She was particularly helpful raising her little brother John, sharing a room until he was six years old, and she may also have been responsible for teaching her brother Gene how to ride in the clothes dryer. None the less, she has surely left each of them with a trove of memories to cherish for the rest of their lives.

Maryann is survived by her loving husband of seven years; Nick of Lincoln Park, her devoted parents; Armand and Dolores Longo of Wayne, four brothers; James Longo and his wife Marjorie of Middletown, NJ, Armand C. Longo of Barnegat, NJ, Gene Longo and his wife Terri of Raleigh, NC, and John Longo and his wife Vicki of Nutley, NJ, and her step-daughter; Morgan Montano of Toms River, NJ. She will be dearly missed by her nephews Christopher, Mark, Bradley, Matthew, Harley, Jagger, and Ryan, as well as nieces Christina, Casey, Kelsea, Justine, and Sophia.

In Lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated in Maryann’s memory to Sharing Network Foundation, Attn: Marsha Kefer, 841 Mountain Avenue, Springfield, NJ 07081, www.sharenj.org, or to the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of America, Gift Processing Center, P.O. Box 29119, Phoenix, Arizona 85038-9119, www.wish.org.
