Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 9:30 AM at the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home, 567 Ratzer Road, Wayne. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Friday from 4-8 PM.
Melva Faber (nee Brown) age 85 of Indian Trail, North Carolina passed away on Monday, June 11, 2012 at home with her family gathered at her bedside. Her wonderful faith in her Lord and Savior became sight at the moment of her peaceful passing.
She was born in Paterson where she spent very happy childhood years. During her married life she lived in Haledon, NJ and also enjoyed family time on their farm in Albany, New York and also in Matamoras, Pennsylvania. In retirement years she settled in Indian Trail, North Carolina.
Melva received her formal education at Paterson Eastside High School. At age seventeen she went on a blind date with a handsome fellow by the name of George Faber. They went horseback riding in Haledon and as horses sometimes react with a stranger on their back it headed at a gallop for the barn. As the story goes on, George rescued her from this harrowing experience and two years later they married.
They had fifty-five years of wonderful marriage together until George’s passing in November 2000. Together they had four wonderful children whom they loved with all of their hearts.
Melva’s true dedication in her personal life journey was being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She especially enjoyed family gatherings.
She had a wonderful faith in her Savior and while living in Indian Trail, North Carolina she regularly attended First Baptist Church of Indian Trail and in her New Jersey life she was a member of the Wyckoff Baptist Church in Wyckoff.
Her children will tell you that she was the best of the best Mother in the whole world.

Surviving to mourn her loss in their lives are one son Steven Faber and his wife Kim of Haledon; three daughters Robin Faber of Charlotte, NC, Barbara Meester and her husband Dave of York, SC, Linda Faber-McLeod and her husband Ray of Indian Trail, NC; eleven grandchildren including Rachel and Ashley Faber, Eric McPherson, Daniel McPherson (predeceased Jan. 2011) MatthewMcPherson and his wife Kristen and Michael McPherson; Lisa Hilton and her husband Jared, David Meester and his wife Ann and Douglas Meester and his wife Sasha, Jamie Schwenk and Chelsea McLeod; eight great-grandchildren, Brittany Sain, Brianna Sain, Lexi Hilton, Aimee Meester, Drew Meester, Ryan Meester, Chase Meester, Scarlett Meester.
Melva will be laid to rest with her husband George at the Fair Lawn Cemetery.
The family expresses heartfelt appreciation to the staff and fine nurses of Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte Region, especially her “favorite” nurse Carlton Niven.
In lieu of flowers the family wishes that donations be sent to Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte , 1420 East 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204, in memory of Melva Jean Faber, www.donatehospice.org.
