Minnie M. Steenstra (nee McLean) age 96 of Wayne died Thursday, September 7, 2006 at the Christian Health Care Center, Wyckoff.
She was born and raised in Paterson having lived in Wayne for the past forty-seven years.
Mrs. Steenstra was a fourth grade teacher for the Oradell Board of Education. She left her teaching career when she was married because, at that time, women were not permitted to be married and be a teacher at the same time.
For many years she was member of the First Presbyterian Church, Paterson where she was a member of the choir and mother’s club.
Her father, Colin McLean, was the former mayor of Paterson for whom McLean Boulevard/Route 20 is named after.
She was formerly a member of the Upper Montclair Country Club and had bowled with their team for many years.
Minnie was a member of the Packanack Seniors for many years.
Very proud of her Scottish heritage she enjoyed playing bridge and especially loved travel. She took each of her grandchildren on a special trip including: a cruise through Alaska, a Mediterranean Cruise, a trip to the Midwest and a trip through Europe. She also enjoyed visiting her sister Janet at her bayside home in Forked River and traveling with her all around the world.
Her family will always remember her for her generosity and her sense of adventure.
Beloved wife of the late Edward Steenstra(1965); loving mother of Clariss Rock of Wayne and her late husband John(2005) and Janet Thompson of Oak Ridge and her late husband James(1994); loving sister of the late Janet Cueman; cherished grandmother of James Thompson and his wife Peggy, Edward Thompson and his wife Kathleen, Jocelyn Anderson and her husband James, Cynthia Mizzone and her husband Thomas, Joanna Clark and her husband Derek and ten great-grandchildren.
