Friends may visit with the family at the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home, 567 Ratzer Road, Wayne, on Sunday, Aug. 20, 2023 from 2-6 PM. Funeral Services will be held at 9:30 AM on Monday, Aug. 21, 2023 from the funeral home, then to Our Lady of the Valley, 630 Valley Rd., Wayne, NJ, where at 10:30 AM a Funeral Mass will be offered. Mona Lisa will be laid to rest at the Calvary Cemetery, Paterson, NJ.
Mona Lisa Adamo
Mona Lisa Adamo, age 62, a life-long resident of Wayne, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer, surrounded by the comfort and care of her mom and close friends.
A loving daughter, caring friend and accomplished nurse, Mona Lisa Adamo was born and raised in Wayne, NJ. She is survived by her mom, Michele Charlard Adamo and her brother, Shawn Adamo and predeceased by her father Angelo Adamo, and her brother Carl. Mona graduated Wayne Valley High School in 1979 and went onto Fairleigh Dickinson University where she received her Nursing Degree in 1983 and her MPA, master’s in public administration, Nursing in 1992. She also held a Certificate of Non-profit Management from William Paterson University. Mona Lisa was an active member of Our Lady of the Valley (OLV) RC Church, Wayne. She served as an usher for many years, a member of the OLV Parish Festival Committee, a CCD (Confraternity of Christian Doctrine) instructor, and a cherished member of the Cornerstone team.
Mona brought warmth and humor wherever she went. She established her nursing career in the NICU as an RN in St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Paterson in 1983 and went on to become an Administrator of the Early Intervention Program in 1995. A position she held until 2014. She then began her work as a Surgical Coordinator at NJ Orthopaedic Institute (NJOI), and later a Director/Program Supervisor for The Nurse-Family Partnership in Passaic & Bergen until she retired in July 2022. She was the President, Board of Trustees of Healthy Mothers /Health Babies Paterson/Passaic (2007 – 2010), North Jersey (2010 – 2012).
She will be remembered for her dedication to her mom, her love of children and infants, and her exuberant personality. She was the sparkling light in her large circle of friends. Mona was always up for adventure (kayaking, yoga, swimming and traveling), and was the first to initiate a new event. She also had a great love for traveling and shopping with her Mom. Her humor was infectious as was her smile. She will be missed greatly by her mother, brother, nephews, Angelo and Jason, pup, Coco, family in Canada, and her many friends.
