A memorial service will be held 11 AM on Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at the Preakness Reformed Church, 131 Church Lane, Wayne.
Muriel R. Wakeman(nee Roome) age 84 of Wayne died Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at the Christian Health Care Center, Wyckoff surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Bloomfield and lived in Elizabeth and Paramus before moving to Wayne forty-three years ago.
Mrs. Wakeman was employed as a biologist by Standard Oil of New Jersey for sixteen years before retiring in 1960.
She graduated from Bloomfield High School, Bloomfield with the class of 1940 and went on to Middlebury College, Middlebury, VT where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology with the class of 1944.
Muriel was a member of the Preakness Reformed Church, Wayne where she served as a Consistory Member, the Antique Show Committee, Women’s Group, Vacation Bible School and Sunshine Committee.
She was a member and previously served as president and secretary of the Pines Lake Garden Club, Wayne; a member of the Pines Lake Woman’s Club, Pines Lake Seniors, Synchronized Swim Team, Cub Scout Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader all in the Pines Lake section of Wayne.
Muriel enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, knitting, sewing, cooking, traveling, playing Bridge and swimming. She will be remembered as being thoughtful, a true and loyal friend, kind, generous, hard working, loving, considerate, adventurous, social and determined. For her family she made holidays throughout the very year special and they will always remember camping vacations and her baking cookies.
Beloved wife of thirty-seven years to the late Irving Wakeman (1997); loving mother of Enid Wakeman of Edgewater, MD, Cynthia Wilby and her husband Gregory of Dunkirk, MD, Robert Bradley Wakeman and his wife Emily of Redondo Beach, CA and Alan Wakeman and his wife Maureen of Cranford; cherished grandmother of Sarah and Ryan Wilby of Dunkirk, MD and Kathryn and Kevin Wakeman of Cranford.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Preakness Reformed Church Scholarship Fund, 131 Church Ln., Wayne, NJ 07470 or the Valley Hospice, 15 Essex St., Paramus, NJ 07652 or the Christian Health Care Center, 301 Sicomac Ave., Wyckoff, NJ 07481 would be appreciated.
