Ofelia Gonzalez
April 27, 1936 – June 10, 2026
Ofelia Gonzalez, a pillar of strength, devotion, and boundless love, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, in North Bergen, New Jersey, at the age of 90.
Ofelia’s story began on April 27, 1936, in Matanzas, Cuba, where she was born to Herminia and Luis Perdomo. As the eldest of ten children, Ofelia learned the values of responsibility, sacrifice, and family unity at a young age. While her father worked tirelessly on the farm to provide for the household and her mother managed their bustling home, Ofelia stepped up as her mother’s right hand, playing a pivotal role in raising her nine younger siblings.
On December 31, 1960, Ofelia married her beloved husband Omar. Together, they would share the ultimate adventure and build a family of five children. In April of 1968, fueled by the dream of a brighter future, they made the courageous decision to leave Cuba for the United States. Arriving in a new country with two young children, not yet knowing that a third was on the way, they faced unimaginable hurdles. They did not speak the language and had no existing network of support. Yet, armed only with resilience and an unwavering commitment to their children, they pushed forward, overcoming every obstacle to build a beautiful life from the ground up.
Ofelia dedicated her entire life to her home and her family. As a stay-at-home mother, her children were her world, her purpose, and her greatest pride. Her legacy of love only multiplied with the arrival of five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense light into her life. Her absolute greatest joy was found in the simple, precious moments spent surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
When she wasn’t spoiling her family, she loved catching up on her favorite novelas and Spanish television shows.
Ofelia is reunited in peace with her late husband, Omar. She is survived by her five devoted children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Rolando Perdomo, who resides in the United States, while her remaining siblings continue to honor her memory from Cuba.
