A Funeral Mass was offered on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at St. Denis RC Church, Yonkers, NY.
Interment was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
Olga Joan Koblick (nee Leskow) age 83 of Leland, NC, formerly of Yonkers died Thursday, October 12, 2006 at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington, NC.
She was born in New York City having lived in the Bronx, and then in Yonkers, NY for over fifty years before moving to Danbury, CT and finally Leland, NC.
Before being married she worked as a secretary at the Todd Shipyard in New York City.
Olga, affectionately called Mimi by her husband Murray, and known as Mom and Grandma by her family, was a kind person who took pleasure in taking care of people, enjoyed crossword puzzles and horoscopes. She can be described as: generous, loving, thoughtful; a genuinely happy person who loved life, always put others before herself, laughed a lot, was always full of good advice, found humor in life, always saw the positive-her cup was always 3/4 full, she had a kind word about everyone, was always there when you needed her, was a good listener, had a contagious laugh, was highly organized, always said “things happen for a reason” and was on top of her game right to then end.
Beloved wife of fifty-five years to the late Murray Koblick (September 2002); loving mother of Caroline Caldropoli and her husband Joseph of Leland, NC, Barry Koblick and his wife Annabel of West Milford and Nicholas Koblick and his wife Lynn of Grayson, GA; cherished grandmother of Brian Koblick of Grayson, GA, Kristen Koblick Ortega and her husband David of Pompton Lakes, Jessica Koblick of Berwick, PA, Kasey Koblick of West Milford, Danielle, Stephanie and Ericka Caldropoli of Leland, NC; devoted great-grandmother of Alexandra Grace Ortega of Pompton Lakes.
She was predeceased by her mother Magdalene Hirka(March 1999), her mother-in-law Pauline Koblick(January 1991); her stepfather Louis Hirka(1970’s) and her father-in-law Nicholas Koblick(March 1961). She also loved her dogs Tiffany and Jackie who also predeceased her.
Those planning an expression of sympathy, in Olga’s memory, are asked to consider the American Heart Association, 2550 US Highway 1, North Brunswick, NJ 08902-4301.
The following eulogy was read by Olga's son Barry.
Eulogy for Mom: 10/12/06
She was Olga, she was Mimi, she was my Mom, she was your Mom, she was Grandma, she was Great Grandma, she was your friend, and she was your neighbor. She was a wonderful, beautiful woman, inside and out, who touched all of us with her love, laughter, and compassion.
If you met her you instantly loved her … there was no other way. Her goodness radiates through all of us and anyone who has met her has become a better person for it. Her goodness was compassionate and magnetic, her laughter was contagious. She loved life, she loved us all, and I know that God has opened the pearly gates wide and rolled out a red carpet because he knows that he is getting one of the good ones, one of the best ones.
Her cup was never half full, it was always three-quarters full. She could spot a ray of sunshine in a thunderstorm. There wasn’t a problem or issue that she couldn’t deal with and every one of them, regardless how difficult or challenging it may have been, always had a positive side, some small positive twist that she found and made the most of, and sometimes it was only her that saw the positive side. She touched each and every one of us in a very special way … in a way that each one of us will always remember. She touched every one of us deep in our hearts. She was truly one of a kind.
Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, Friend, and Neighbor … whatever yo
