Friends may visit with the family from 2-6pm on Sunday, August 16, 2026 at the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home, 567 Ratzer Rd, NJ.
Funeral services will be held 9:30am on Monday August 17, 2026 at the funeral home, then to Our Lady of the Valley RC Church where at 10:30am a funeral mass will be celebrated.
Interment will be in Laurel Grove Memorial Park, 295 Totowa Rd, Totowa, NJ.
Patricia E. Buchmann, 92, of Wayne, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026.
Born and raised in Paterson, New Jersey, Patricia was one of five children born to the late Raymond and Helen Barker. She attended St. Mary’s High School in Paterson and graduated with the Class of 1952. As a young girl, Patricia dreamed of becoming a roller derby queen – a spirited ambition that reflected the vibrant personality she carried throughout her life.
In the early 1950s, Patricia met a handsome young man named George Buchmann. On one of their very first dates, he invited her to walk the length of an entire New York bridge from New Jersey. The two continued to date and were married on August 27, 1955, at St. Paul’s Church in Prospect Park. After briefly living in an apartment, Patricia and George moved to Wayne, where they would make their home and raise their family for the remainder of their lives.
In those early years in Wayne, the area surrounding their home was still largely farmland, with cows grazing in the neighboring fields. Patricia, particularly fond of some cow décor, however held a fear of the animal and would make sure to keep the screen door securely locked. Those early memories became part of the many stories she would share throughout the years.
Patricia and George were blessed with five children, Karan, Patryce, George, Terry, and Pamela, and Patricia devoted herself wholeheartedly to raising her family. She was a loving and dedicated homemaker during her children's younger years. Once her children were grown, she began a new chapter in her life, working for more than thirty years at Plains Pharmacy in Wayne, where she was a familiar and friendly presence in the gift and card department.
Patricia found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid reader, particularly enjoying murder mysteries and crime novels, and she loved watching television and old Western movies. John Wayne was her favorite actor, and Elvis Presley was her favorite musical artist. She also loved decorating her home for the changing seasons and holidays, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for everyone who entered her home.
A wonderful cook and baker, Patricia especially enjoyed preparing Sunday dinners and hosting her entire family for Christmas and Summer picnics. Her famous potato salad, deviled eggs and apple pie were always a favorite and became one of the many cherished traditions associated with her home. She treasured the family vacations she shared with her husband and children at the Jersey Shore, particularly in Wildwood Crest. She and George also enjoyed traveling with her brothers and sisters, making wonderful memories together in destinations including Hawaii and Bermuda.
Above all else, Patricia's greatest passion was her family. She was deeply devoted not only to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, but also to her brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews. She and George shared nearly sixty years of a loving and devoted marriage until his passing in 2015. The love they built together was the foundation of a family that remained at the center of Patricia's life.
Patricia was also a woman of deep Catholic faith. She and her family were longtime parishioners of Our Lady of the Valley Roman Catholic Church in Wayne, where her faith provided her with comfort, strength, and guidance throughout her life. She was often heard to say in many situations, “Just Pray!” and would finish phone calls with “Remember God loves you and so do I”.
Those who knew Patricia will remember her for her extraordinary kindness, gentle spirit and razor-sharp wit that could effortlessly brighten any room. She never had a bad word to say about anyone. She accepted people for who they were, without judgment, and treated everyone with warmth, compassion, and respect. She had a genuine ability to make those around her feel accepted and cared for.
Patricia held a deeply special place in her heart for her beloved cats, Marigold and Petunia, who brought endless joy and companionship into her life. True to their devoted nature, both cats stayed faithfully by her side until her final moments.
Patricia was a truly special woman whose love, kindness, devotion, and quiet strength touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her greatest legacy will be the family she cherished so deeply and the countless memories she created with them over the course of her 92 years. Though she will be profoundly missed, the love she gave so freely will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and all who knew and loved her.
Patricia is survived by her five children; Karan Perritt and her partner Michael of McCormick, SC, Patryce Schulte and her husband Fran of Wayne, NJ, George Buchmann and his wife Laura of Glen Ridge, NJ. Terry Biagi and her husband Rich of Ridgewood, NJ, and Pamela Buchmann and her partner Pete of Riverdale, NJ, her brother Robert Barker and his wife Judy of Wayne, NJ, thirteen grandchildren – Michael, Katie, Brittany, Bryant, Frances, Jared, Richard, Matthew, Jessica, Tyler, Matthew Stevens, Alexis, and Emily, and nine great-grandchildren (with 2 more on their way) and 14 nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband George Buchmann (2015), her son-in-law John Perritt (2014), her brother Ray Barker (and his wife Helen), two sisters Barbara Blondin (and her husband Carmen), and Joyce Barker, she was also predeceased by her niece Barbie Blondin.
Patricia’s loved ones find deep peace in knowing she has been reunited with her family in heaven, where they are all rejoicing together.
