Patrick J. Del Vicario age 83 of Lincoln Park passed away on Tuesday December 5, 2017 while receiving the loving care of his family.

Patrick was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. He graduated from Boys High School with the class of 1951. After his graduation from high school, Patrick attended Adelphi College for two years then transferred to University of Southern Mississippi where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and graduated with the class of 1956. Patrick was able to attend college on a full Football Scholarship, and following his graduation, he was drafted by the Baltimore Colts in the twenty second round. He played for the Colts for only a year but had the pleasure and honor of playing along one of the greats Johnny Unitis. He then took an opportunity to play for the New York Giants farm team. After a short time with the Giants farm team he went to play for the Newark Bears, a semi-professional football team. Since the Bears were a semi-pro team, Patrick needed to supplement his income by working for Rheingold Beer Company as a Goodwill Ambassador.

Patrick truly enjoyed his time and position at Rheingold, however it was short-lived when the company went out of business several years later. It was then that Patrick earned a position as an Insurance Agent at Mutual of Omaha in New York City. He worked there for twenty years until retiring in 1999. Patrick wasn’t the type to sit around for very long, he then went to work for the Wayne Township Board of Education as a Paraprofessional. Patrick worked there for eleven years until he was forced into an early retirement due to his illness.

In 1951 tragedy struck Patrick’s family when his older brother Anthony passed away suddenly and unexpectedly while returning home from his service with the US armed forces. Patrick had a special and very close relationship with his brother. After his passing, Patrick tried to go on with his life but was never really the same after that.

Needless to say that Patrick was a huge sports fan, particularly of the New York Giants and the New York Yankees. He loved playing Poker with his buddies and he also enjoyed bowling and golfing as well. He was devoted to his Catholic Faith and was a Parishioner of Our Lady of the Valley RC Church in Wayne. Aside from all of Patrick’s hobbies, talents, and interests, his greatest love was for his family. Spending time with his wife and children were the things that were most important to him. Patrick was an extraordinary person who touched the lives of many people and will be sincerely missed by all who knew him.

Patrick is survived by his wife Mary (nee Bonomolo) of Lincoln Park, one daughter; Carolyn Del Vicario of Lincoln Park, two sons; Joseph Del Vicario of Florida and Patrick A Del Vicario, one sister; Mary Jane Del Vicario of Queens, NY, and two grandchildren; Angelina Del Vicario and James Patrick Furler. He was predeceased by his brother Anthony L Del Vicario in 1951.
