Paul A. Lauro age 81 of Wayne died Saturday, October 28, 2006 at home. He died quietly and peacefully while receiving the loving care of his family at his bedside. His death followed a short but courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Brooklyn, New York, grew up in Yagerville, NY and lived in Paterson before moving to Wayne thirty-nine years ago.

Mr. Lauro was an Ironworker for Ironworker’s Union Local 483 in Paterson for forty years.

He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Consolation RC Church in Wayne.

In his leisure time he enjoyed golf and being Mr. Fixit. There wasn’t anything he could not build or fix and he did many projects for his children and neighbors.

Paul had a gift of personality that caused him to be very kind and loving by nature that resulted in him being adored by his wife, children, grandchildren and many friends. He was always there for his family in many loving and caring ways.

While living in Paterson years ago he reached out with his personality in the neighborhood and was affectionately referred to as the “Mayor of East 24th Street.”

His daughter Karen recalls many delightful experiences with her dad with one particular memory above all. That beautiful memory was the day Karen saw her dad in church on her wedding day giving her away to her husband with such grace and caring.

His daughter Kathy remembers that every minute was a special moment with her dad.

Perhaps the most delightful experience of his life was the arrival of grandchildren whom he adored with all of his heart.

Paul and Susan were married for fifty-one years in a “wonderful loving marriage”. They met in Seaside Heights at two o’clock in the morning. Susan was with friends on the way home and she was sitting on a fire hydrant and Paul walked up to her, they flirted, and at that moment they found a dedicated best friend adoring relationship that has lasted all of these years.

We would be remiss if we did not mention his dedication to his work. He was an ironworker but that word seems insufficient a description of his work. He had many skills and one was the ability to be high in the air walking on steel beams bolting them together to build buildings. A job he did for forty years to support his family. It was a job that involved great bodily risk and he did it to be able to provide well for his family. He could take you to many locations in New Jersey and point out his contribution to the building trade.

Surviving are his loving wife Susan (nee Kalupa) Lauro; two daughters Karen Niemann and her husband Richard of Pompton Lakes, Kathy Richard and her husband Tom of Pompton Lakes; two sisters Maureen Schub of Jacksonville, Florida, Dorothy Bommelyn and her husband Augie of Jupiter, Florida; one brother Dr. Fred Lauro of Pomona, New York; five grandchildren Jennifer, Steven and Michael Niemann, Patricia and Paulie Richard.

Those planning an expression of sympathy, in Paul’s memory, are asked to consider donations to the Lauro Family.
