Peter Joseph Lowry of Wayne, NJ passed away peacefully in Nevada on Friday, March 10, 2023 while receiving the loving care of his family.

Peter was born in Teaneck, NJ and was one of four children to James and Ruth Lowry.  Throughout the years, he and his family resided in Palisades Park, Bogota, the Pines Lake section of Wayne, NJ and most recently at Four Seasons in Wayne, NJ.  He also lived in Gardnerville, NV.

Following his graduation from St Cecelia’s High School in Englewood, NJ, Peter attended Seton Hall University where in 1970 he earned his bachelor’s degree.  Immediately after his graduation from Seton Hall, Peter enrolled at Fairleigh Dickenson University where he received his Master of Business Administration.  He later acquired his license as a Certified Public Accountant in 1977.

Peter was instilled with an outstanding work ethic by his parents as a young man.  While Peter was in high school, he took a job as a dishwasher for a local Howard Johnson’s Restaurant.  Through college he delivered telegrams for Western Union Company.  Subsequent to his college graduation, he remained with the Western Union Company and accepted a position as an auditor with their branch in New York City.  Peter’s title as an auditor permitted him to travel across the country, however, most of his duties had him remain on the east coast of the United States.  He later settled in the company’s New Jersey office in Upper Saddle River where he worked as an Accountant.  Peter eventually left Western Union and accepted an offer to work at ATT in Basking Ridge, NJ where he was employed as an accountant for many years until his retirement in 2000.  Peter’s career as an Accountant spanned nearly thirty years.  During his career he was truly well respected and loved by his peers and colleagues.  Peter also offered his skills as a Certified Public Account to his local community.  He was an accountant for the Pines Lake Association for six years as well the Laurelwood Arboretum in Wayne for six years.

In the early 1970’s, Peter met an attractive young lady by the name of Geraldine Riddell.  As fate would have it, Peter and Geraldine fell in love and became husband and wife.  The family settled in Wayne where they welcomed the births of their daughter Kerry and their son Brian.  Peter and Gerry remained in Wayne for many years where they raised their family.

Running and biking were some of Peter’s favorite pastimes.  Throughout his life, Peter ran in four New York City Marathons and rode The Five Borough Bike Ride in New York three times.  He also biked and explored all of the New Jersey Rail Trails.  Another of Peter’s interests was Sailing, he was a member of the Pines Lake Sailing Club for many years while living in Wayne.  Peter was a devoted New York Jets and  New York Yankees during his life.  He also had a soft spot for pizza and chocolate.

Those who knew Peter best knew that his greatest passion in life was for his family.  Nothing in the world meant more to Peter than providing for and spending time with his children and grandchildren.  He and his wife Geraldine cherished fifty-one years of loving and loyal marriage together.  Peter was not only devoted to his family but was also dedicated to his Catholic Faith.  He and his family were parishioners of St Mary’s RC Church in Pompton Lakes for many years.

Peter will forever be remembered as a devoted husband and a loving and cherished father and grandfather.  He touched the lives of many people and will be sincerely missed by everyone that knew him.

Peter is survived by his wife Gerry Lowry (nee Riddell) of Wayne, NJ, his daughter Kerry Spanner and her husband Mark of Hampton, NJ, his son Brian Lowry and his wife Karen of Gardnerville, NV, three grandchildren; Autumn Spanner of Hampton, NJ Mason Lowry of Gardnerville, NV, and Gehrig Lowry of Gardnerville, NV, four nieces; Suzanne Assadollahzadeh of Simi Valley, CA, Shirin Mohajer of Simi Valley, CA,  Elizabeth Angle of California, and Eileen Lowry of New York City, two nephews; Cameron Maadi of Simi, CA and Joseph Sirios of Bridgewater, one sister-in-law Kathleen Lowry of Wyckoff, NJ, and one brother-in-law Joseph Sirois of Bridgewater, NJ.  Peter was predeceased by his parents James and Ruth Lowry, his brother James Lowry, and his two sisters  Patricia Maddi and Kathleen Sirois.
