He was born in Chiclana de la Frontera, Spain and had lived in Cuba before coming to this country when he was twelve years old, settling in Newark. He lived in Lyndhurst for many years before moving to Sunrise and later Ocala, Florida.

Mr. Verdugo was employed in the jewelry business, throughout his working career, having retired as a diamond setting foreman with the Jabel Jewelry Company, Irvington in 1981.

As a young man he was trained as a mason and used those skills to build his own home in Lyndhurst.

He will be remembered by family and friends as a quiet person who took great pride in keeping his home pristine, helping neighbors and making his wife’s life as comfortable as possible.

Surviving him are his wife of sixty-seven years Valentina (nee Casuso) Verdugo; two sons Peter W. Verdugo Sr. and his wife Maryann of Wayne and Robert W. Verdugo and his wife Karen of West Windsor; five sisters Carmen Palma of Sunrise, FL, Andrea Varella of E. Hanover, Rose Nunez and Mary Pimentel of Naples, FL and Lydia Harris of Cotati, CA; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers Joseph and Manny Verdugo and two sisters Antonia Nieto and Magdalena Ramos.
