Friends may visit with the family at the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home, 567 Ratzer Road, Wayne, on Monday, April 17, 2017 from 4-8 PM. Funeral Services will be held at 8:30 AM on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from the funeral home, then to St. Mary’s RC Church, Pompton Lakes, where at 9:30 AM a Funeral Mass will be offered. Entombment will follow at the Holy Sepulchre Mausoleum in Totowa.
Rae Caddell (nee Villopoto), age 74 of Manchester, NJ and formerly of Haskell, died Thursday, April 13, 2017.
Rae grew up in Paterson and married Edwin Caddell in 1962. Edwin was in the U.S. Navy and they lived on various naval bases during the early years of their marriage. Rae became a full-time mother to her four children and poured her heart and soul into raising them. They eventually settled back to Paterson before moving to Haskell in 1972. Rae’s children recall what a great baker their mother was. Her homemade coffee cake and crumb cake were among their favorites. She learned to cook from her mother of course, and Sunday dinner at grandma Villopoto’s house always included twice as much food and any sensible person should ever eat in one sitting. Rae and her family enjoyed summers together in Seaside Heights, and she also traveled with her husband to Hawaii, Aruba, and they cruised the Caribbean. As grandchildren entered her life, Rae learned to fawn over them as any loving grandmother would, with perhaps a little bit of favoritism for her grandsons. Rae was a big football fan and attended all of her grandson’s high school games, and she loved to watch the NY GIANTS. Brett Favre was her all-time favorite NFL player. She and her husband Ed later moved to Jefferson before retiring to Manchester, NJ about ten years ago.
Sadness had visited Rae in recent years with the tragic loss of her granddaughter Ashley Caddell. Just prior to their fifty year anniversary she lost her husband, Edwin. It was right around this same time that she received her own diagnosis with cancer. She endured nearly five years of treatment before finally succumbing on Thursday.
Rae is survived by her four loving children; Eddie Caddell and his wife Loretta of North Carolina, Dennis Caddell of Riverdale, Kelly Iraggi of West Milford, and Kimberly Smith of Manchester, five grandchildren; Kevin Caddell, Tina Iraggi, Cory Caddell, Valerie Caddell, and Hailie Smith, one sister; Kathy Villopoto of Port Charlotte, FL, and one brother; Carmen Villopoto and his wife Rose of Saddle Brook.
