Friends may visit with the family at the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home, 567 Ratzer Road, Wayne, on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 from 9 AM – 11AM. Regina will be laid to rest at the Calvary Cemetery in Paterson.
Regina Benson of Clifton, NJ died at age 81 on May 21, 2026. She was born in Paterson, NJ to Regina Fallon Benson and James Sigler Benson on March 9, 1945 when her father was serving in the US Army in Germany during World War II.
She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Montclair, NJ in 1963. She received a BA in English from the College of St. Elizabeth in 1967 and taught for five years. In 1974 she received a master’s degree in social work from Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service.
She was a practicing psychotherapist from 1974 to 2022. She worked for private agencies from 1974 to 1997 in Michigan and in New Jersey, having held positions of psychotherapist, Clinical Supervisor, and administrator. In 1997, she established her own private practice in West Caldwell, NJ. She retired from there in 2022.
She was a NJ Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a NJ Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She was former treasurer and president of the NJ Association of Women Therapists.
Her life was one of service. From 1963 to 1972 she was a Sister of Charity of St. Elizabeth of New Jersey. From 1974 on, she was dedicated to her work as a psychotherapist.
She was much traveled and was a lover of the outdoors. She especially loved being “down the shore” at the Jersey Shore and hiking in the Kittatinny Mountains and was a proud native of New Jersey.
She is survived by her much-loved brother James Benson, sister-in-law Laurie and nephews Wyatt and Joshua.
