Rene’ M. Serfaty, age 67 of Lincoln Park, died on Monday, August 1, 2011 with her family at her bedside.
Rene’ grew up in Union City, New Jersey and moved to Wood-Ridge, New Jersey at the age of eleven and graduated from Wood-Ridge High School with the class of 1962. She later lived in Garfield before moving to Lincoln Park in 1987.
She began her career with the Alfred Knobler Importing Company and worked there for nearly thirty years in customer service. Rene's career then led her to work for The Zrike Company in Oakland, New Jersey, where she worked for the past ten years as a customer service manager.
Rene’ was never one to be lonely and always had a group of friends and family around her; the more, the merrier. As her brother quotes "If two or more should gather, Rene' is there." You could be sure that there was plenty of food there too, since Rene’ was a great cook with a huge kitchen, making her house the perfect place for everyone to gather. She was blessed with many loving and caring friends.
She was devoted to her children, loved their spouses and fawned over her grandchildren. She adored her grandchildren and loved them all so much. She helped care for them every day, and would make it a point to get to all their sporting events; soccer, softball, you name it – Rene’ was there to watch and cheer them on. She actually became the team's favorite fan.
Rene’ met her husband Hubert and it was love at first sight. Of course, Hubert didn’t speak any English – only French, but perhaps that had something to do with it. Hubert will tell you how lucky he was to travel all the way from France to find this beautiful woman. They married in 1971 and honeymooned at Niagara Falls. That soon became a problem as the Canadians wouldn’t let Hubert back into the United States and he was stuck there for nearly a month before he could come home and be with his bride. Throughout their marriage they continued to travel; twice to France, Canada, and just about anywhere around the United States that had a casino. Rene’ loved to gamble and the casino was her favorite place to be. They went to Las Vegas about every two years, Atlantic City a few times a year, and out to the Pocono’s regularly. They had fun together, loved each other dearly, and enjoyed their fortieth anniversary just this past April.
She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of forty years; Hubert of Lincoln Park, her daughter Desiree Sokoli and her husband Glenn of Wayne, her son Jeffrey and his wife Serpil of Lincoln Park, four grandchildren; Arden and Livia Sokoli of Wayne and Ayden and Roman Serfaty of Lincoln Park, two brothers; Norman Wazaney Jr. and his wife Ann of Pequannock and Dennis Wazaney and his wife Carole of Longwood, FL, and two aunts: Violet Marzocca and Victoria Ajami, both of Toms River, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Valley Hospital Foundation , 223 North Van Dien Avenue, Ridgewood, NJ 07450 and be sure to write in the memo field: Heart and Vascular Institute fund in honor of Rene' Serfaty .
