Robert H. Hamilton “Bob” age 76 of Wayne died unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at the Saint Joseph’s Wayne Hospital in Wayne. His passing to heaven took place with his loving family surrounding his bedside.
He was born in Paterson and soon after his birth tragedy struck the family when his father, Henry Hamilton, suddenly passed away. Robert was raised by his maternal grandmother, Henrietta Van Seters.
Bob received his formal education at Paterson Central High School but had to leave school prior to graduating to help support his grandmother.
Bob was traveling down North Fourth Street in Paterson in 1951 when he spotted a beautiful girl on the front porch of her home and started flirting with her. Her name was Hazel Schwerdt and they soon became a couple. They courted for three years and then they married at which time Bob was serving in the United States Army. After his service in the Army, he settled in Wayne with his wife Hazel where he has lived for the past 46 years.
Robert held a job as a truck driver in the construction industry for many years. Later in life, Bob went to work for the Parsippany Hilton Hotel in the facilities engineering department. He recently retired in 2008.
Bob had a fatherly humanity about him coupled with an intense concern for the hearts and souls of his children and grandchildren. Dad worked many long and hard hours because he wanted the best for his family so that they would not experience the harshness that his childhood years presented him. Robert was a very loving and nurturing father. Thanks Dad for being such a wonderful part of our lives. Robert was a devoted husband and together he and Hazel had a "good and happy" marriage for 55 years.
Tragedy struck his life in 1979 when his daughter Diana Lynn Hamilton suddenly passed away at the age of 23. At that time, Robert became a member of the Pequannock Reformed Church in Wayne, where he served as an elder. Bob's deep faith in his savior Jesus Christ guided him throughout his life and has now brought him to eternal rest.
Surviving to savor the wonderful memories of a very special husband, father and grandfather are his wife Hazel (nee Schwerdt) Hamilton; one daughter Patricia Ann Talerico and her fiancé Vincent Nargiso; two sons Robert Curtis Hamilton of Florida and Wayne Hamilton of Wayne; four grandchildren Louis Hamilton, Samantha Hamilton, Jessica Lynn Hamilton and David Michael Talerico Jr.
