Robert Hopping Wood “Bert” age 63 of Montville died Sunday, September 24, 2006 at home. His passing was sudden and unexpected.
He was born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and had lived there, the Packanack Lake section of Wayne and Lincoln Park before moving to Montville thirty-four years ago. He also maintained a winter home in Jensen Beach, Florida.
Bob received his formal education at Wayne High School and also Carteret Preparatory School in Carteret graduating with the Class of 1961. He then went to the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Printing Technology with the Class of 1965.
He started his career in partnership with his father in Wood Press in Paterson and at his father’s retirement he became President of Wood Press. He later was an executive with Plymouth Printing in Cranford finally retiring from work in 2004.
He was a member of Printer of New Jersey, the Mountain View Masonic Lodge 154, the North Jersey Country Club and formerly the Montclair Country Club.
Robert’s hobbies included hunting, fishing and golf.
We would be remiss if we did not mention his love of dogs and nature. His dogs over the years included Candy, Cassie, Casey and Molly.
He enjoyed life and loved spending time with friends. He especially loved his wife and children and was always there for them on all of their life’s adventures.
Robert and Jean were married for twenty years in a “loving and best friend” relationship.
Surviving are his loving wife Jean (nee Fox) Wood; one daughter Danielle DeSanto and her husband Robert of Williston, Vermont; one son Jeffrey Wood of Montville; two sisters Marilyn Queen of Savannah, Georgia and Janice Wood of San Francisco, California.
He was predeceased by his first wife Joyce Wood in 1984, his sister Marsha Wood in 1995, his father Robert E. Wood in 1993 and his mother Ruth E. Wood in 2004.
Those planning an expression of sympathy, in Robert’s memory, are asked to consider Visiting Nurse Association Hospice of North Jersey, 38 Elm Street, Morristown, NJ 07960.
