Ronald L. Bosland age 75 of Wayne died Wednesday, July 25, 2007 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. His passing was quiet and peaceful while receiving the loving care of his family, who were at his side.
He was born in Paterson and had lived there and in Fair Lawn before moving to Wayne forty-six years ago.
Ron received his formal education at Paterson Central High School graduating with the Class of 1949. He then went to Montclair State Teachers College where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education with the Class of 1953. He had a strong desire to teach the French language and he enrolled in LaSalle University in Quebec Canada and received a Masters Degree in French.
He joined the Navy and served during the Korean and Vietnam eras and was discharged with the rank of lieutenant.
Ronald was employed first by the Englewood Board of Education for ten years and later by the Rutherford Board of Education for twenty-five years. He taught at the Rutherford High School specializing in English and French languages. As part of his teaching experience he arranged trips to Europe for students exposing them to European culture as well as the spoken language of the areas they visited. He retired from teaching in 1987.
He had a special love of soccer and encouraged and participated in soccer teams while in college and throughout his career in teaching. He often would volunteer as a mentor or soccer supporter with the Montclair State University Soccer Team program.
He was gifted with a personality that placed other’s needs above his own and would go out of his way to make himself available to help others in their time of need. He was always upbeat about life and the events taking place around him and also served as a father figure to many young folks who, for whatever reason, did not have a dad in their lives. As a result of his very kind and caring ways he developed a strong network of friends.
A particularly fond memory of Ronald was how he teamed up with his sister Dolores to care for their mother during the long autumn of Mom’s life, until her passing. Honoring their Mother and Father was an important priority in their lives, and they endeavored to do so with much love.
Surviving is one sister Dolores Bosland of Wayne and many cousins.
Those planning an expression of sympathy in Ronald’s name are asked to consider The Montclair State University Soccer Team, One Normal Avenue, Upper Montclair, NJ 07043.
