Friends may visit with the family from 1-4 PM on Sunday, August 14, 2022 at the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home, 567 Ratzer Road, Wayne.
Funeral services will be held 9 AM from the funeral home on Monday, August 15, 2022 then to Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 45 Urban Club Road, Wayne where a 10 AM Funeral Mass will be offered.
Entombment will be held following the Funeral Mass in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 W. Stevens Ave., Hawthorne, NY
Salvatore Adolph Cerasuolo, age 96, of Boynton Beach, Florida, formerly of Wayne, passed Monday, August 8, 2022.
He was born to Louis and Carmela Cerasuolo in New York City and graduated from the Christopher Columbus High School in Bronx, New York. He lived in Bronx, New York before moving out to the country where they bought a home in Wayne in 1977. Salvatore lived in Wayne for 44 years before moving to Boynton Beach, Florida in 2021.
As a young man in his 20’s Sal worked at his brother’s pizzeria. Through the years he has owned three different butcher shops: Astoria, Queens, NY, Bergenfield, NJ, and the Bronx, NY. He worked at Cerveli’s Supermarket in Hoboken as a butcher for fifteen years before retiring in 1987. During his retirement he has worked at Sears and Burlington Coat Factory in a security capacity.
Salvatore served in the United States Army from 1944 through being Honorably Discharged as a Staff Sergeant on June 26, 1946. While in the Army he served with the 254th Infantry Regiment's 63rd Division.
Salvatore met the love of his life, Carmela Cervone as they grew up in the same neighborhood in Manhattan. Her family knew his family and introduced them. Salvatore was very happy as he thought she was a beautiful girl. They soon fell in love and married. Salvatore’s butcher shop was doing very well, and he was proud to buy his wife Carmela a brand new 1956 pink Cadillac. They enjoyed sixty years of a devoted and loving marriage which Salvatore described as “two peas in a pod.” Before Carmela’s passing on January 7, 2009.
Salvatore was the loving husband of the late Carmela Cerasuolo; dear father of Phyllis Antonelli and her husband Joseph of Pleasant Valley, NY and Sally Cuccurullo of Delray Beach, FL; he was the loved grandfather of Eric Currurullo, Jennifer Hickey and her husband William, and Joseph Antonelli; he was the devoted great-grandfather of Owen and Camille Hickey.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
