Sarah Jane Dymond (nee Booth), age 87 of Wayne, died on Tuesday September 29, 2009.
She was born in Wyoming, PA and had lived in Wayne for fifty five years and was a long time member of the United Methodist Church.
Sarah was gifted with a warm and giving personality. She made everyone who entered her home feel welcome with perhaps a cup of hot tea and happy conversation or a sympathetic ear.
She was a women of faith and raised her children with bedtime prayers and Sunday School every week. Saturday nights became a ritual of baths, shampoo, setting hair in curlers for four daughters, ironing and polishing shoes.
Mom never forgot and occasion. The Grandchildren have fond memories of receiving cards in the mail for Halloween, Easter etc. You could tell the mail was from her not only by the return address label but by the beautiful ornate handwriting on the envelope.
Grandma would also recognize the various seasons and holiday by decorating what her children like to call the “birthday shelf”. She had a shelf in the kitchen that she arranged differently at the start of each month honoring the family members who were celebrating a birthday or anniversary. She placed framed photos of the “honorees” that month along with other seasonal decorations. It became a source of pride for both her and the family member she honored.
She was a good cook and had a number of special dishes that no one else could duplicate exactly, although many of us are still trying. Most memorable is he coleslaw, meat pie and potato salad.
Sunday dinners were always special at her house. It called for fancy tablecloths, her Blue Willow Dishes and some type of roast served with gravy and many different vegetables. Speaking of vegetable, potatoes were being peeled in her kitchen everyday and then prepared several different ways; mashed, boiled, home fries, raw fries, baked, scalloped, mashed then fried, in stew…………..
She married William Dymond in April of 1946 and they enjoyed forty one years together before his passing in March of 1987.
Sarah is survived by four daughters; Linda Labazzetta of Franklin, NJ, Judith Perry of Bedford, NH, Cynthia Fernicola of Rockaway, NJ, and Laura Jean Korkes of Wayne, NJ, one son; William Dymond Jr. of Jefferson, NJ, sixteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, a brother; Hiram Booth of Pennsylvania, and a loving cousin; Carol Ulrich.
She was endearingly known as “Aunt Sis” to her many nieces and nephews.
