(nee Griffin) age 79 of the Packanack Lake section of Wayne

Sophie M. Kaminski (nee Griffin) age 79 of the Packanack Lake section of Wayne died Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at Saint Joseph’s Wayne Hospital. Her passing was quiet and peaceful as she entered her promised eternal life. Her loving family were at her side.

She was born in Hoboken and had lived her formative years in Hoboken later living in Jersey City before moving to the Packanack Lake section of Wayne fifty-five years ago.

She was a parishioner of the Immaculate Heart of Mary RC Church in Wayne. She lived the life of a lady devoted to her Catholic faith in a very meaningful way. One of her wonderful traits as a Mother to her eight children was instilling Catholic values into their lives. She did that by her own personal life practices and example and also providing them with a wonderful Catholic Parochial education at Immaculate Heart of Mary School. The community and her family hold her in deep admiration for how she imparted all of this to her children.

Sophie was a founding parishioner of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Wayne where she also served as a Eucharistic Minister. She also spent much of her time and energy at Immaculate Heart of Mary School voluntarily to see to it that her and other children received a fine Catholic education.

Sophie was also active in the community as a member of the Packanack Lake Community Association, at the Passaic County Board of Election for over twenty-five years. She was a member and past president of the Ladies auxiliary of Packanack Lake Fire Company #5 and for eight years on summer vacations at Seaside Heights she was a Blue Bird Lady a group that monitored the beach.

Sophie was a world traveler visting many place and some of her most memorable trips included visiting Jerusalem, Fatima, Lourdes and her ancestral home town in Ireland and a family trip to Our Lucaya. She also survived a cross country trip with her husband Peter and three teenage girls.

She leaves her family with warm feeling about how her dedication as a Mother, Wife and grandmother and great grandmother influenced their individual lives in such a meaningful way. Mom was always there for her children taking them to sporting events and school activities so that they would grow up well rounded and very special. She succeeded and lived to see that her efforts triumphed as a “Super Mother”. Among the childrens loving memories are the whole family enjoying the polka dance done at family gatherings

Her family has fond memories of always receiving home cooked meals and very special holiday celebrations where her cooking made their life special.

The entire Kaminski family has special memories of the round table where countless late nights were shared and created.

Peter and Sophie had sixty years of “wonderful and devoted” marriage together.
