Susan A. Hudes

Susan A. Hudes, age 71, passed away unexpectedly after a sudden illness, peacefully with her sons by her side, on Friday, July 21, 2023. Sue was born August 31, 1951, in Bronx, NY, the daughter of the late David and Margaret.

Sue attended Herbert H. Lehman College in the Bronx and graduated with a B.A. in Psychology. Sue married Stephen N. Hudes in 1973 and lived in Wayne since 1979. Together, they were the owners of Sam's Bagel & Deli, a popular eatery in town for 25+ years, as well as the original owners of a West Caldwell location. Upon Stephen’s passing in 2011 and after 38 years of marriage, Sue seamlessly immersed herself in the business and had the privilege of meeting neighbors and enjoyed getting to know so many regular faces.

Sue is survived by her loving sons Ryan and Keith. She was most proud of her sons and found joy and satisfaction in their personal and professional accomplishments. Ryan earned a Ph.D. from Seton Hall University, where he now serves as a Sr. Associate Dean. Likewise, Keith earned a Master’s in Public Administration and serves as the Director of Community Initiatives for Family Services NY.

Sue will be forever remembered as a devoted matriarch of her family, strong mother, and cherished friend. Her personality and wit made her an excellent source of comfort and advice among her family and close-knit group of friends. She will be tremendously missed.
