Thomas Edward Williams age 71 of Wayne died Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at the Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson. His passing was peaceful while he received the love and caring of his family who where all in attendance at his bedside.
He was born in Chicago, Illinois where he lived his formative years. Tom received his formal education at Teuley High School in Chicago graduating with the Class of 1958. He then joined the United States Navy and got to tour much of Europe during his service time.
While stationed in Brooklyn, New York he met his future wife Diane. On December 15, 1962 they tied the knot and became husband and wife and had four daughters.
In the Navy he learned the welding trade, after his discharge he went to work as a welder for International Harvester Corporation and A&E Welding. He retired in 2004 but continued to work part time for a few years.
Tom was gifted with a very wonderful extraverted personality that loved to be socializing with people. He gave himself a nick name and would often refer to himself as “Tis Himself” when he greeted other people in person or on the phone.
“Big Tom” is best described as a proud Irishman that loved parties. His favorite celebration of the year was Saint Patrick’s Day. He had this gift of contributing a lot of humor to a party always trying to make people laugh.
He was very active in Wayne Township serving as Commander of the Wayne American Legion Post 174 for three terms and was also a member of the Wayne Elks Lodge 2181.
His finest dedication in life was to family. He was the proud and loving father to four wonderful daughters and Grandfather to eight grandchildren. When you ask his daughters about their father they respond with “The Williams Salute”.
Tom’s leisure time was spent playing softball for local Wayne teams. Standing at six foot six Tom was an opposing figure as a pitcher, donning the number four representing his four daughters.
Surviving to mourn his passing are his beloved friend Diane; daughter Kelly Sedlacik and her husband Joe of Hewitt, daughter Tammy Williams and her fiancé Gaston of West Milford, daughter Holly DePeri and her husband Tony of Haskell and daughter Kerry Chromcik and her husband Joe of Highland Lakes; older brother Terry Williams and his wife June of Henderson, Nevada, younger brother Richard Williams of Newport, Rhode Island and younger sister Patricia Stellwagen and her husband Butch of Saint Charles, Illinois; eight grandchildren Brian, Sarah and Kristin Sedlacik, Michael and Meghan DePeri, Joseph, Jonathan and Jake Chromcik.
