Thomas H. Spencer age 58 of Prospect Park died Saturday, September 30, 2006 at the Chilton Memorial Hospital in Pompton Plains. At his passing he was receiving the loving care of his wife Cathy, along with other family members.

He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and had lived in Springfield, Pa, Wayne, PA and Wyckoff, NJ before moving to Prospect Park thirty years ago.

He received his formal education at Upper Merion High School in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania graduating with the Class of 1966. He then went on to study for two years at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois where he majored in Psychology.

Tom was a self employed Printing Broker for fifteen years. The name of his company was Universal Business Products of Prospect Park. He was previously employed by Avery Label Company in Manhattan, New York City.

His hobbies included gardening and deep sea fishing. He kept a very prolific vegetable garden in his yard, perhaps Jersey’s best home grown crop of veggies. He also loved to get up early in the morning and go deep sea fishing at the Jersey Shore.

He was also Mr. Neat and Orderly with his personal space always well organized, his garage floor painted to perfection with his tools neatly hung on the wall in precise order and his lawn and garden kept to high standards of appearance.

Tom had a gift of having a very generous and kind personality that caused him to have many friends. He would go out of his way to aid and help people with warm compassion including visiting them in the hospital even to the point of not actually going into the patient's room but rather just being there for that person in the waiting room. He just plain cared about others even to a fault.

His sister Patricia has many fond memories of a brother who was always there for her in a very loving and caring way. His brother in law Chud Walker recalls how he felt more like a brother to Tom than an in-law.

Cathy and Thomas had a ‘”best friend loving marriage” for thirty years.

Surviving are his loving wife Cathy (nee Walker) Spencer; his Mother Claire Spencer of Wayne, Pennsylvania; one sister Patricia Kolea and her husband John of Wayne, Pennsylvania; one brother William Spencer and his wife Linda of Deerfield, Massachusetts; his brother in law Chud Walker and his wife Brenda of West Milford; two sister in laws Tracy Walker of Boonton and Alison Walker of Sparta; a dear friend Carol Halliday of Boonton; many nieces and nephews and his bosom buddy old gang of friends from High School days “The Ridge Boys” of King of Prussia, Pennsylvania.

Those planning an expression of sympathy, in Thomas’s memory, are asked to consider the charity of your choice.
