Timothy O. Johansson, age 57 of Haledon, passed away on Monday July 18, 2011, after a courageous ten year battle with cancer.

Tim was born in Jersey City on November 28, 1953. He was raised in Lyndhurst and Bloomfield, later living in Maplewood and West Orange before moving to Haledon fifteen years ago. He was employed with Berlex Laboratories as a Customer Service Representative for nearly eleven years. Previously he had been a Retail Manager with Fanny Farmer and The Children’s Place.

Tim’s passions and hobbies varied widely. He was a talented entertainer, playing in several bands over the years as a keyboardist and vocalist. He first played in the “Carrie Rowe Band” and most recently in a band named “High Velocity” with Larry Garbowski. They played weekly at Buttonwood Manor in Matawan, NJ. Surely he received his gift of music from his father who was also an accomplished band member many years ago. Tim also enjoyed astronomy, peering into the heavens with his telescope as often as the weather allowed. The weather was another of his hobbies and he had several instruments mounted to his home that monitored atmospheric conditions and changes, all of which fascinated him. His daughter, Carrieanne, also shared Tim's interests in astronomy and the weather. He was an archer and an enthusiastic model railroader. Him and his brother, Carl, spent several times shooting at a target in the backyard.

When Tim and his wife Diane traveled, it was usually to a destination with a casino. Tim loved to play the slots and on a few occasions he got lucky, but he always had fun. Several trips to Atlantic City, Florida and a trip to Ocean City, Maryland were with Diane and his daughter, Melody. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle that he got last year and riding in his 1973 Cadillac. Tim and Diane went to New Hope, PA in August 2010 where there was a car show. He had entered the "caddy" in the show. Even though he didn't win he still had fun. Other trips were to Hershey Park, PA for their 5 year anniversary and also to The Poconos.

In January 2001 he met Diane Iuso at Berlex and they enjoyed a date together two months later at “Steak & Ale” in Fairfield. It was true love-at-first-sight and they were engaged to be married just one month later. They were married on September 7, 2002 and took a cruise to Bermuda for their honeymoon. They enjoyed a relationship as the best of friends, soul mates, and would have celebrated their ninth anniversary this September.

Tim was blessed with two beautiful daughters, Carrieanne and Melody, from his first marriage. Tragedy struck in 2005 when they lost Carrieanne in a car accident. Tim was never quite himself after that, understandably so. He stopped playing in the band and spent as much time as he could with his family, especially his daughter Melody. She loved her dad so much and took great care of him, the best she could, during his illness. It should also be mentioned that Tim loved his Lola Bear which is a miniature Yorkie that Melody had gotten several years ago. Tim loved cats but was never a dog lover until Lola. Even though she was Melody's dog, Tim loved Lola, so she stayed at his house most of the time.

Tim is survived by his wife Diane Iuso-Johansson of Haledon, his daughter Melody Johansson of Dover, NJ, one sister; Jacquelyn Johansson of Toms River, NJ, one brother; Carl Johansson of Spring Lake, NJ, four nephews; Christian Johansson of Florida, and Joshua, Matthew, and Thomas Johansson of Toms River, NJ; and brother-in-law Tom Iuso and his wife Margaret of Wayne, and their two children: Zachary and Nicholas Iuso, also of Wayne.
