Vincent Caropreso, age 51 of Pompton Plains and formerly of Wayne, died on Christmas Eve, Sunday, December 24, 2017. He was surrounded by his loving family and many loyal friends during the final days of his courageous battle with cancer.

Vinnie grew up in Wayne and graduated from Wayne Hills High School with the class of 1984. He had been a standout football player with the Wayne Hills Patriots and when he went on to study at Villanova University he tried out for the football team as a walk-on. The odds of joining a Division 1 football roster as a walk-on are slim, but despite the odds, Vinnie made the team! He enjoyed his time at Villanova, maybe even a little bit too much, and after a few semesters he decided to leave school and join the carpenters union in New York City. Vinnie has been a member for more than thirty years of NYCDCC Union 157 and he was most recently a project manager. His coworkers know him as a perfectionist and a workaholic.

Vinnie was selfless and caring and he who would do anything for his many dear friends. He could fix and do just about anything and he loved being able to help others. If he knew that you were doing a home improvement project, he would just show up and help you – and his work was meticulous. He volunteered on the Wayne P.O.L. Fire Company 2 for thirty years and served as their Chief from 2001-2003. His fellow firefighters were like brothers to him and he cherished their friendship. Being a firefighter emboldened Vinnie to enjoy one of his favorite hobbies; playing with fireworks! The Fourth of July was, understandably, his favorite holiday and Vinnie always seemed to have the best fireworks! Of course, it wasn’t uncommon for the police to show up in response. Vinnie loved throwing big parties as his house and cooking for all of his friends. His parties were always memorable.

Vinnie was devoted to his wife and two sons. He met his wife, Maureen (nee Bardone) at the famed “Waterfront” in Packanack Lake. She found him to be a romantic man who always wrote long notes in the cards he gave her. They married on Oct. 3, 1992 at St. Anthony’s RC Church in Butler, followed by an Aruba honeymoon. Their honeymoon was anything but typical, as two of Vinnie’s best friends, along with their wives, joined them for the week!!! Throughout their years together, Maureen and Vinnie’s love for each other grew stronger and stronger. As Maureen candidly and very honestly describes; they didn’t always like each other, but they always loved each other; they enjoyed fabulous times together and Vinnie gave her a wonderful life. When it came to Vinnie’s two boys; Dominic and Joseph, they were his everything and he loved the two of them tremendously. He could be a strict dad at times, but that was the ‘perfectionist’ side of him that wanted only the best for his boys. There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for them and they always knew how much they were loved. In 2003, Maureen gave birth to twin boys; Joseph and Anthony. Sadly, Anthony passed away just a few days later and Vinnie’s love seemed to be amplified in response; drawing him even closer to his family. He had a huge heart and his family will miss him dearly.

Vinnie is survived by his beloved wife Maureen (nee Bardone) of Pompton Plains, his two sons; Dominic and Joseph, and by his dear mother; Joan Caropreso of Wayne, his sister; Kathy Siso and her husband Tom of Wayne, his step-sister; Megan Caropreso of Butler, nieces; Shauna Siso of Wayne, and nephew Patrick Siso of Wayne, and two aunts; Kathy Falato of Wayne and Catherine Garcia of Wayne. He was predeceased by his son Anthony in 2003 and by his father, Ugo in 2001.

Donations in Vinnie’s memory would be appreciated to benefit the St. Joseph’s Hospital NICU. Donations can be sent to; St. Joseph’s University Medical Center Foundation, 703 Main St, Paterson, NJ 07503 or visit www.stjosephshealth.org.
