William Mirko

William R. Mirko, of Wayne, New Jersey, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at the age of 79.

William fondly known as “Bill” or “Gapa” was born on April 9, 1944 in Newark, NJ son of the late William and Helen Mirkowski. Bill attended High School in Queens NY. At the age of 18, he followed in his father’s footsteps and enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served as a Security Agent.

Bill married the love of his life, Mary Ann Sudovar in 1980. They lived in Packanack Lake for over 40 years where they raised their 5 children. They were active parishioners of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church for many years where they spent numerous hours volunteering. They also were a big part of the Immaculate Heart of Mary School community, where all of their children attended. 

After his time in the military, he spent most of his career working as a Tele Communications Executive at the Singer/Kearfott Company. Following a short period of retirement, he took a part-time job at the Oak Ridge U.S. Post Office where he was able to relax and enjoy a slower pace of life. Bill was extremely kind, friendly, and social; there wasn't anyone in town that didn't know him and love him.

Bill was a loving husband, father, uncle, grandfather and friend to all he met. He was happiest when he was with his family. He loved nothing more than spending time with his 12 grandchildren who were his pride and joy. He also had a deep love for all things Myrtle Beach, SC.  He took great pleasure in the annual tradition of vacationing there with the entire family every summer. The family tradition continues to this day, 40 years later.  

He is survived by his loving wife Mary Ann, and children Marianne and husband Charlie Lazzio of Wayne, NJ; Roy Mirko and wife Dawn of Wayne NJ;  Kathleen and husband Bryan Fox of Stamford, CT; and Ed Mirko and wife Carolina of Oakland, NJ; 12 grandchildren; Brianna, Mateo, William, Kaitlyn, Ashley, Mattingly, Carlee, Michael, Peyton, Miles, Emma and Manning. As well as many other cherished family members and friends who will greatly miss him. He was predeceased by his son Michael who passed away in 1996. 

In lieu of flowers memorial donations to St Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Alzheimer's New Jersey would be greatly appreciated.
